Welcome to Day 8!
Good Morning!

Today we will discuss metabolic disease and insulin resistance.

Here is the information discussed:
  • When you eat, glucose is released.  The more processed and carbs in a meal, the more glucose released.  Even good carbs such as fruit cause a large release of glucose if there is not fiber/fat/protein to help slow the absorption.
  • This glucose spike in the blood causes your body to release insulin.  The higher the glucose, the higher the insulin.  Insulin is then supposed to shuttle the glucose into the cell.
  • Insulin in general can cause weight gain if it is in excess and not being used.
  • Many people are insulin resistant, which means the cells don’t recognize it anymore.  This leaves insulin in the blood.  It also means glucose does not get into the cell.  Glucose in the blood is damaging to the cells and organs.
  • Without adequate glucose getting into the cells - we have decreased cellular energy and we get fatigue - brain and body fatigue.
  • We then get a vicious cycle of fatigue - which can lead to inactivity - which can lead to depression and weight gain and the cycle continues.
  • A main symptom of insulin resistance - fatigue after eating.
  • A main symptom of low blood sugars - energy after eating.

Recommendations:
  • Manage blood sugars
    • Cut out processed and sugar carbs.
    • When eating - balance your food with fats, fibers and protein.
  • Food is medicine!!  A whole food, real food diet can cure metabolic disease!
  • Many of the main food plans already discussed can help reverse this:
    • Whole 30
    • Paleo
    • Mediterranean diet
    • Keto
  • These food plans can help reverse insulin resistance, help weight loss, hypertension, diabetes and more.
