Welcome to Day 16!
Today we will discuss the importance of air quality.
Indoor air quality:
Indoor air is often more toxic than outdoor air.  It can contain many small particles that can cause inflammation in the body - from mold, to bacteria, dust mites and toxin.
We also spend 90% of time indoors.
Take time to access the indoor environments you spend the most time in - and access ways to improve it.

Mold/Bacteria due to WDB’s (water damaged buildings):
50% of buildings have water damage and may have mold and bacteria that can affect our health.  For some - this can create allergy type reactions.  For others - there may be chronic inflammation turned on from mold creating a cascade of symptoms and illness (25% of people have these genetics).  This can cause significant illness.

Basic things to consider for WDB’s and mold:
  1.  Keep humidity under 50% (check different rooms, use dehumidifiers and fans)
  2. Use hydrometers to measure humidity in at risk areas:  basements, laundry rooms, bathrooms
  3. Keep adequate air movement (try not to have closets on outside walls packed without air movement).
  4. If there is a musty smell - there is active moisture and mold/bacteria.  It should be investigated.

Other things to check:
  • Venting for gas stoves
  • Venting for showers, laundry areas and anything with moisture
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Radon
  • CPAP tubing and supplies
  • Ducts and air conditioner

Other things to do:
Clean, dust and vacuum weekly.  Wash bedding on hot weekly

Consider air purifiers - sometimes multiple ones for the most used rooms

Note: if video playback is jerky, it likely means the video is buffering and waiting for your internet to catch up. If this happens, just hit the download icon (down arrow in lower right hand corner of video) and watch once it downloads. You can also tap the double arrow icon to put the video in full screen mode.
