Today we will discuss happiness and its impact on health, as well as how we approach our goals.
Pleasant Life: Appreciating the basic pleasures such as nature, companionship, a warm house, a good meal and other basic things. Sometimes in an illness journey, this will be the happiness that is most readily available to us. We need to embrace that in that time. A gratefulness journal can be helpful. But focusing on the positives a much as you can, gives positive input to the nervous system, which will help towards healing. Good Life: Discovering our unique virtues and strengths and using them creatively to enhance our own lives. This is where creating hobbies, reflecting on your own gifts, and practicing them can bring us joy and happiness. Meaningful Life: Employing our unique strengths for a purpose greater than ourselves. This can be little things or big things. It might be playing music in a nursing home - taking your talent to bless others. So often we define happiness by comparing our lives to others - the things we have, the things we do, etc.. This is an impossible task - which often leaves us unhappy. We have many ways to find happiness, even in the simple things. Finding happiness, especially in the midst of health challenges, life challenges and more is possible. We just may have to refocus our lens at a more focused level, until we are able to broaden that as we get healthier. |
