I just wanted to send an update on a few things...
It's been a whole year! July marked the one year anniversary of starting Flourish! Thank you to all of you who have been with Flourish a year now! It has been quite a journey and we are so thankful for all of you who are takin charge of your own health and participating in building a community of health! We will be sending out individual emails to discuss where things are at with your plan, health goals for the next year, and customized membership plan options based on your usage this year and anticipated needs for next year. We will also be looking for any feedback on how to continue to grow and improve your membership experience!
Member Education I will be producing some future videos for the toxin series, bone health, as well as dyslipidemia and blood sugar. I am also looking to start some monthly Zoom meetings for those with specific conditions like CIRS, Hashimoto's, Gut Health issues and more. Please let me know if you are interested in a certain topic for both education and group Zoom meetings.
Masks With regard to the mask mandate, we are doing what we can to continue to make visits to Flourish enjoyable and productive. For those coming here for in-person meetings, we will try to meet outside as much as possible (weather permitting) where we can visit comfortably and social distance to allow for not needing masks (unless you prefer masks regardless). Once we move inside, we will ask that you bring and wear a mask while moving and also during any possible examination. While inside, sitting 6 feet apart, we can discuss the options of masking or not, depending on each situation. If you have a meeting scheduled and do not want to mask, we will plan to meet outside. If the weather does not permit that, we can either reschedule or change to a Zoom meeting.
Lab Date The next lab date is next Wednesday morning, August 12th. Let me know if you would like to get on the schedule.
COVID UPDATE: I have been trying to keep up to date with recommendations and new studies. As you are aware, this is a "novel", or "new" virus that has not been previously identified. Therefore, new data continues to be accumulated, which guides recommendations. I will be putting together a separate document summarizing the most up-to-date consensus regarding prevention and treatment by early next week Please note recommendations can change over time. Changes in prevention and treatment recommendations are not a sign of the scientific community contradicting itself; rather, it is a good sign that those focused on the science are open to looking at new data as it emerges and making changes based on the science.
Until I have something more comprehensive ready to share, I would just like to put one thought forward: PLEASE do not take everything presented in the news, on Facebook, or YouTube as 100% truth. For some reason, COVID has been politicized and both parties have now taken sides regarding various aspects of COVID. There are political agendas at work behind many statements and videos circulating on social media (on both sides). Often, there is some element of truth in even the most sensational viral videos; but somewhere between the extremes lies the truth. By following the data, listening to credentialed experts, reading actual unbiased clinical trials, and drawing from my own experience as a clinician, I am working hard to separate the wheat from the chaff and present information to my members that is not agenda-driven. Again, I will get that out in the next days.
I am also hoping to provide an educational tool/video about how to look objectively at various news articles, studies, etc. that become viral in the media. While COVID has brought the issue of bias regarding science to the forefront of the nation, the phenomenon is not new. We have all seen this in the past with various misleading headlines and studies. For example, does anyone remember the headline: "Diet soda prevents diabetes"? The article referenced a poorly designed and shoddily run study which makes the results unreliable....and the study was sponsored by Pepsi. I have seen the same issue with COVID. Hydroxychloroquine has now been turned into a political issue; and what should be a drug whose merits are based on studies and data has become extremely polarized. Many are familiar with the group that has named itself "Frontline Doctors" who are touting Hydroxychlroquine as a cure-all that every person in the country should now be taking. While this medication (in combination with other medications) may be helpful, it is not the silver bullet that will cure COVID. There are well designed and carefully performed studies that show mixed results. I am neither "for" or "against" this medication, and I do have some on hand as part of my "toolkit". But there are also potential issues with the medication, especially when combined with Zithromax. I will discuss this in the upcoming video I will make. My caution at this time is to look into the claims made by certain groups and to research if individuals or groups are coming together "organically" as a medical or scientific community of peers, or whether they have been assembled by a political group or special interest with major funding. Unfortunately, it is not hard for any organization, party, interest group, etc., of any political affiliation, to find a dozen or so doctors to support their agenda. Again, using the Frontline Doctors as an example, there is some truth in their message; but not necessarily the full truth. Again, my goal is to dig through the muck and find the actual studies that are valid by unbiased. My priority during these time is your health, NOT the advancement of either political party. 100% of my income comes from you, our Flourish Health community of members, not any special interests or drug company. That means the only special interest I am beholden to is yours, so I am working hard to bring you the best information during these difficult times so we can all Flourish!
